What does Salvation mean?

salvation_webPhoto http://www.victory.church

I was in my first year of college at Silliman University when someone first shared the gospel to me. I was told that I only had to accept Christ as Lord and savior in order to be saved. Salvation, I was told, was a gift that I could accept if I wanted to. It wouldn’t be forced on me. It was my choice to make.

But what does salvation really mean?

This was our topic tonight at GLC 2 (Global Leadership Center). GLC is a series of classes scheduled once a week at our church CCF (Christ Commission Fellowship). It’s purpose is to equip us to go beyond barriers to share the gospel to as many people as possible and to help us live a life for Christ.

Salvation is more than just the forgiveness of sins. Our speaker tonight gave us 3 things that happen when we receive the gift of salvation.

Born again. Once we accept Christ as Lord and Saviour, we are born again. Our old self no longer exists. This is our rebirth. Our chance to be new again.

New creation. Salvation is about us being a new creation is Christ Jesus.

New nature. Salvation is about having a new nature. Our old nature, the nature that wants to sin and do dishonorable things will still be there, fighting to win over our new nature. How can we win? We can win by starving the old nature and feeding the new. It’s only by focusing on God that we will be able to achieve victory in our life.

1 Peter 1:3

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

It’s not about being perfect or never sinning again, because no one is righteous. Good works cant save us. Only faith can.

Ephesians 2:8-10

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Once you accept Christ, it’s impossible for you to be the same. You will be slowly changed by God. Salvation leads to a changed life. Jesus isn’t interested in making a few touch ups – he wants a complete renovation. We think tune-up, but Jesus wants an overhaul. When we choose to follow him, Jesus will turn our lives upside down. He isn’t interested in having uncommitted followers. He wants complete and total dependence on Him.

God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way

-Mac Lucado

What then is role of good words?

If we are saved through salvation and not by good works, what then is role of good works?

Good works are a result of a life lived for Christ. It cannot bring us salvation. But good works result from having Christ in our life. Because again, once Christ is in us, we will be changed.

What next?

After everything God has done, what is our response?

We are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. Worship isn’t only about going to church on Sundays or attending bible study. Worship is a lifestyle. Living a life as a sacrifice – holy and pleasing to God.

I admit that this is something I need to work on. When it comes to living a life of worship, I’m not as consistent as I should be. Some days, I get it. On other days, I fall into sin again. This is why I need the Lord more than ever. Because I can never do it on my own. I can only triumph over sin through His grace alone.

How about you? Do you live your life in worship?

God isn’t after perfection but a transformed life. All He asks is for you to let Him in.

Go live a Truly Wealthy life.

50 Shades of Love Session 3: Love and Marriage

wedding-rings-wallpaper1Photo from http://www.sandhillsweddingexpo.com

If you are single and you want to get married, I have an important question for you. What are you doing to prepare for it?

Last Friday, Ptr Mel Santos tackled the 3rd topic on 50 Shades of Love: Love and Marriage. A lot of singles out there want to get married. But only a few prepare for marriage.

Preparation is key to success.

When you want something, you prepare for it. Preparation is vital because intention is not equal to ability. You may intend to do something, but if you don’t prepare adequately then your chances for success will be diminished.

For example, if you want to run a 42K marathon, you don’t go out and run it immediately. You need to prepare for it everyday. You run regularly going a little further each day until you are able to run a 42K.

In the same way, just because you say “I do” doesn’t make you capable. Promises are no substitute for preparation. Marriage is the most significant relationship we can have next to God. What are you doing to prepare for it?

Intention is not equal to ability.

-Pastor Mel Santos

Whatever you do today influences your future. We continually look for Mr. or Ms. Right, but have you committed to growing yourself to be the right person?

Would you marry, you?

It’s not about being perfect. It’s simply about having the desire to change for the better and working at it everyday. You become what you continually do.

Commit now to becoming someone who can keep commitments later. If you want to be a good spouse, start preparing yourself now.

So how does one prepare for marriage?

Address any unresolved childhood or current issues.
If you get married without resolving your issues, you will bring your emotional baggage into your marriage. This is not only unfair to your spouse but also damaging to your marriage.

If you attempt to build intimacy with a person before you’ve done the hard work of becoming a whole and healthy person, every relationship will be an attempt to complete the hole in your heart.

– Les and Leslie Parrott

Check your most important relationships.
How is your relationship with God?
How is your relationship with your parents?
How are you with work?

Get out of debt.
Starting your marriage while you’re in debt isn’t a good way to begin. So if you are in debt, get out of it first before getting married.

Get involved with a local bible-based church in terms of ministry and serving others.
Once you start serving other people instead of just thinking of yourself, your character grows. You will acquire patience, kindness and true joy of serving others – traits that are needed in marriage.

List of qualities we should look for in a future spouse:

  • Loves God and others
  • Spiritually mature
  • Emotionally mature
  • Spiritual leader
  • Able to provide (man)
  • Respectful (woman)
  • Responsible
  • Has integrity and character

Commit now to start becoming the person you should be. Take steps to change your habits. Grow. Be better. When you do this you will become the worthy person that you are looking for.

“In His wisdom, God brings two people together to balance each other, to fill each other’s gaps. They are stronger as a team than they were as individuals. They are two independent people who choose to become interdependent.”

-Davie Boehi, Preparing for Marriage: Discover God’s Plan for a Lifetime of Love

Commit to the process of becoming the person worth pursuing, worth winning and worth loving.

Blessed to Bless

Give-generously-Mindfulness-Tip-1024x512

What act of generosity has created the most impact in your life?

We don’t become generous by accident, for man is naturally selfish. To become generous is a choice – a choice formed by modelling. We become generous because someone did it to us first. Someone showed us how. Someone modelled it for us.

For me, it was my mother.

My mom is the most generous person I know. Not just to us – her children – but to everyone. Growing up, she consistently showed me how it was to be generous. To be giving. To be compassionate. When someone needed her help. she would not hesitate to extend a hand. When she  had a sibling who wasn’t doing well financially (as was often the case), she would help them out. Even if at times we were also a bit tight – she would still choose to help. My mom would give even when  it wasn’t always easy or convenient. She would give even when she didn’t need to.

Giving is not giving until it hurts.

-Mother Teresa

The bible says that “It is more blessed to give than to receive. “There were a lot of times when my mom gave until it hurt. That’s just the way she is. Her example made an impact on me. It showed me that giving is a privilege.

When you bless people, they in turn, will bless others. Generosity is contagious.

Blessed to bless.

The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each one of you should give just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work.

-2 Corinthians 9:6 – 9

I learned that when you bless others, you’re fulfilling God’s purpose as to why he blessed you in the first place. It’s a lot better to give than to be the one who needs to be given to. To be able to give is a privilege. And I’m not just talking about money. You can give far more than that. You can give compassion, kindness and encouraging words. But I believe that the best thing you can give to others is your testimony. Your story about how God changed your life. Because the benefit for the other person when he receives Christ in his life is not just temporary. It’s eternal.

Our time here on earth is limited. Why not spend it on something that will outlive us and create an impact?

-Mel Santos

One of the best ways I know to show generosity is to genuinely care for others and share the gospel with them. Sharing Jesus is a privilege. Accepting God in my life has been the best decision I ever made. The joy that I get in serving Christ and in pointing people to him, knows no bounds. It has turned my life around, 180 degrees. It has changed me from the inside out. It has given me a sense of purpose and direction. Having Christ in my life is the best thing that happened to me. How can I possibly keep Him to myself? How can I not share Jesus?

Blessed to bless. This is what we are.

You don’t know how big of an impact a small act of generosity can make.

Choose to be generous.

Share Jesus.

Praise to Overflow

praise to overflow + october 2015 + ccf

Music is one of the best expressions of worship. With music you can let go and sing your praises to The One who gave his life up to save us. Praise to Overflow is the first major event of SNL (Saturday Night Life) – a weekly activity for young professionals who want to learn more about Leadership, Teamwork and Success.

Praise to Overflow is two hours of non-stop music and worship. Get ready to be overjoyed and overwhelmed as we give our all for the Audience of One.

Worship - Its All About Him

Long ago, one Man gave his life to defeat sin and set mankind free. 2000 years later, we stand united, celebrating the glory of His resurrection over all the earth. Praise to Overflow is an entire night filled with music, singing, dancing and worship all directed upwards to the Man whose endless grace covers the world. As his love comes down, so our praises go up.

CCF VisMin Exalt Training 2015

exalt training + ccf cdo 6

Just today, CCF concluded its Exalt Training for Vismin 2015. The training started on Friday night (5:30-9pm) and went on till Saturday (8am – 4pm). This was attended by all CCF churches (Hubs, satellite and community churches) in the Visayas and Mindanao area namely – Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, Manolo Fortich, Cebu, Ozamis and Dipolog. The trainers came all the way from CCF Main in Manila just to share their knowledge on how to improve our Sunday worship experience.

exalt training + ccf cdo 4

Exalt is composed mainly of 3 teams:

  • Music Team – singers, prompters, instrumentalists
  • Tech Team (Production) – audio visuals, lights and sounds
  • Host Team – ushers

exalt training + ccf cdo 5

Exalts main objectives are:

  1. To produce excellent worship experience
  2. To help CCF achieve its 2020 vision
  3. To support CCF satellites in their Exalt-related requirements

All three teams are tied together by one common goal – to Honor God. And so it is vital that these teams work together seamlessly, as one. We are after all, many parts of one body.

exalt training + ccf cdo 10

According to Pastor Glenn, worship begins in the parking lot. When we usher people in joyfully to church, that’s already a form of worship. When we play our instrument to glorify God, that’s worship. When we adjust the audios so that everything flows together smoothly, that’s worship. It doesn’t matter what you do. God wants your heart. If in your heart, you are worshipping God, then, that’s enough.

exalt training + ccf cdo 2

The first day consisted more of an overview of Exalt and what to expect the following day. On the second day, we were divided according to our tracks. All ushers, tech people, keyboardists, singers, rhythm guitarists, bassists and drummers were grouped together. Even though I was the only girl in guitar training, I still had fun and learned a lot. The training ended with a demo on what we had learned from the training.

exalt training + ccf cdoThe Guitar Instrumentalists from all over CCF VisMin

The main thing I learned from our session is this: Heart and skill must go together.

It’s important to keep on improving your skill so you can give God your all because He is an excellent God and He deserves your best. At the same time, it’s also vital to constantly check your heart to make sure it’s in the right place. The entire congregation is part of the music team – they’re the choir. Our main goal as musicians is to lead people to worship. The bottom line is to give all honor and glory to the audience of One.

The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.

-Vince Lombardi

exalt training + ccf cdo 3

All in all, I was really blessed by the whole experience.

First, I got to meet people from other CCF churches and made new friends. I even got to meet two of my high school classmates who were also both serving in the music team.

Second, I learned a lot of new things from our amazing trainers. All of them were really excellent in their chosen ministry. As a musician, I was inspired and encouraged by their dedication to excellence. Even though they were already great musicians they continually reminded us the significance of practice, the value of teachability and the importance of having an open heart.

Third, I was encouraged and uplifted by the whole experience. Serving God is truly a privilege. Kudos to everyone who made this event possible – the trainers, organizers and participants. It has been such a blessing!

I have known no greater joy than serving God and pointing people to Jesus. I hope you can experience this joy as well.

Try Jesus. You wont regret it.

Let Go and Let God

There is true freedom in surrender.

Too often in life we are tempted to want to take control of everything, especially for those who are “doers” like I am. I am the type of person who can’t sit still for an extended period of time (unless I’m reading a book). I always want to move around and do something.

One thing God has taught me this past year is to be “still and know that He is God.” There are times when the best thing to do is nothing. For some, doing nothing may be easy. But for me, that’s a challenge. Waiting and doing nothing does not come easy to me because when a situation arises, I immediately want to do something about it.

It was only last year when I realized that waiting is not only about being patient, it’s about being faithful. God will reveal to you his perfect plans in His own time – and not before that.

We are here not to be successful but to be faithful. And if success comes with your faith, then praise God. – Mother Theresa

I’d just finished reading a book entitled Unstoppable – The Incredible Power of Faith in Action by best-selling author and speaker, Nick Vujicic. Nick was born without limbs. And yet that did not stop him by living life to the fullest and sharing God’s amazing love. I look at Nick and marvel at God’s incredible grace, at how He has used this man to inspire millions of people around the world to embrace life and accept Jesus. There are many people who have a complete set of limbs yet they wallow in self-pity and focus only on themselves. I look at Nick and am amazed at how much he has done for others. However, he wasn’t always this way. There was a time in his life when he tried to commit suicide because he didn’t want to burden his parents anymore. It was only when Nick finally let go of his doubts and insecurities that he started being able to inspire people and make a difference. God used an imperfect man (a man without limbs!) to fulfill His perfect plan.

nick-vujicic-surfing-036

Sometimes we focus too much on ourselves that we fail to see God’s amazing plan for us. Had Nick focused on his “disability” he wouldn’t be the amazing author and evangelist he is today.

When I started Truly Wealthy Realty with my partners three years ago, I was focused solely on becoming a successful real estate broker. But when I started attending bible study and church service at CCF, I realized that there are things that are more rewarding than financial success. Of course, I don’t discount that. I still fully intend to be financially successful, but that desire has now come second to serving God. He will always be first with me. The moment I decided to let go and let God, tons of blessings seemed to pour into my life. Truly Wealthy got an exclusive contract with a developer to market a project in Iligan, I became Top Broker of the year for 2014 and this year, I’m finally starting my own bible study group together with a good friend from church.

I’ve never been more inspired and in love with God as I am today.

God + 0 = more than enough

God is more than enough for me and all I will ever need. Everything else is just a bonus.

What about you?

Do you feel like you are always striving to achieve an ever-elusive goal? Do you feel like you’ve been working hard but nothing is coming out of it?

Action is important. But there comes a time, when we have done all we can, that we sit back and let God move. The ability to let go and let God, allows our faith to grow. We need to fully trust in His plans for us for they will always be good, pleasing and PERFECT.

Let go and let God.

Go live a Truly Wealthy life.
